Name-Based Case Searches
A name search works best after choosing the right custodian. District civil, criminal, family, and juvenile matters belong to the District Clerk. County misdemeanor, civil, probate, and guardianship matters belong to the County Clerk. JP and municipal matters stay with the precinct or city court. Search the exact case style when possible and add a date range to separate common names.
- Identify the likely court from the case type, citation, or filing notice.
- Open re:SearchTX or the official local clerk link and enter the exact name.
- Narrow the results by Milam County, court, case type, and a realistic date range.
- Compare the style, court, filing date, and public party role before opening Case Details.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search keyword | Text | Shown | May be narrowed with portal facets. |
| County and court | Filter | Not verified | Select Milam and the likely court when available. |
| Case or party | Filter | Not verified | Use exact public identifiers and roles. |
| Date and hearing | Filter | Not verified | Limit broad results; exact requirements vary. |
Two Milam Clerks, Two Indexes
Milam County has a split that changes every docket search. Karen Berry, District Clerk, keeps the 20th District Court record. Jodi Morgan, County Clerk, keeps the constitutional County Court record. An online miss may mean the search went to the wrong clerk rather than that no case exists.
The District Clerk page supplies docket and court-activity leads. The County Clerk page links to iDocket, but the direct endpoint was not exposed reliably during research. If a local link fails, use the clerk’s phone or counter and provide the cause number, style, year, and record type.
Case Number Searches
The cause number is the strongest search key. Enter it exactly as the notice or clerk shows it, including punctuation and any letter prefix. No verified universal Milam County number pattern was captured, so a made-up format would mislead. A citation number is the next-best key for municipal or JP matters. Add the court and filing year if the portal accepts filters.
If an exact number returns nothing, remove only spaces or punctuation when the screen permits, then contact the custodian. Do not substitute a person’s driver-license or Social Security number when a public cause number will work.
Milam Docket Search Tabs
re:SearchTX divides public research among Cases, Filings, Text in Documents, and Hearings. Select the case description for Case Details, a filing or document for Filing Details, and a hearing type for Hearing Details. Saved searches and export actions may be available after registration.
The public interface requires a sign-in or registration flow. Exact unauthenticated field requirements were not visible, so no filter should be described as mandatory unless the live form marks it that way.
The official portal capture shows the statewide entry point.

The image identifies the correct state system; local clerks remain the final source for scope and currency.
Case Search Results Explained
A result may show an index row, a chronological register of actions, filing detail, document availability, or hearing data. The precise fields depend on the court, case system, account permissions, and redaction rules. “Filed” means an item was accepted or entered. It does not prove that a judge agreed with its contents.
| Cause Number | The court’s identifier and best confirmation key. |
|---|---|
| Style / Parties | The caption and public roles; confirm against the court. |
| Case Type | Civil, criminal, family, juvenile, probate, guardianship, or another class. |
| Filed Date | The date the case or item was entered, not necessarily the event date. |
| Status | Active, pending, disposed, inactive, or closed as coded by that system. |
Milam Online Search Gaps
The FY2024 OCA Data Committee report describes a statewide index, register, and document collection reaching back to 2016, except criminal case records. That boundary makes local follow-up necessary for Milam County criminal cases, older files, and any result that appears incomplete.
A blank result is not proof that no case exists. It can reflect the wrong court, a legacy file, delayed transmission, spelling, restricted access, or a document that was never scanned. The District Clerk uses an LGS case-management system, while statewide access is re:SearchTX. Those layers may not display the same detail at the same moment.
Search rule: Treat an online result as a lead, then reconcile important dates and status with the clerk that keeps the original docket.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
Use statewide search to locate a participating Milam County case across cases, filings, text, and hearings. Use the local custodian to confirm the complete docket, request an older file, or obtain a certified copy. The systems complement each other rather than compete.
| re:SearchTX | Milam County custodian |
|---|---|
| Participating Texas court data | Records held by the specific Milam clerk or court |
| Public index, register, filings, documents, hearings | Local docket, unscanned items, copies, certification |
| Best for discovery and filtering | Best for confirmation and precise requests |
Milam Case Search Fallbacks
When online search fails, contact the correct clerk by phone, visit the counter, or submit a precise written request. State the cause or citation number, court, case style, date range, and whether the need is for inspection, an ordinary copy, a certified copy, a judgment, or the public register. Ask for the current fee and delivery method.
The District Clerk is on the third floor, Suite 5, at 102 S Fannin Ave. in Cameron. County-level records go to the County Clerk. JP matters go to the correct precinct; municipal records go to the named city court. Mail can document a request, but a phone call is faster for a hearing that may occur soon.
For a court date found during a search, use the Milam County court schedule steps and confirm it directly. Portal support can fix account trouble but cannot reset a hearing or interpret an entry.
Milam Docket Status Terms
Search results become more useful when their labels are read narrowly. “Active” or “pending” means the system has not recorded the case as closed; it does not promise a future hearing. “Disposed” is a status, not a plain-language account of the judgment. “Filed” shows that a submission was entered, not that each claim was proved. A “reset” marks a schedule change but does not state why the court moved the date.
- Register of actions
- The chronological index of case events and filings.
- Case style
- The caption used to identify the proceeding.
- Setting
- A scheduled court event shown in hearing or docket data.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the clerk, unlike an ordinary portal download.
Record the exact term, court, date, and source. If the meaning affects a deadline or next step, ask the Milam County clerk what the official docket currently shows rather than expanding a short code into a stronger conclusion.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
Public access has limits. A sealing order, juvenile confidentiality, sensitive family data, protective material, victim or child information, and financial or medical identifiers can restrict a case or document. A public index may show an event while withholding the image. “Unavailable” can also mean unscanned or permission-limited, so it is not proof of a sealing order.
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 states the general inspection rule for judicial records and includes exceptions. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a governs civil sealing procedure, Rule 21c addresses sensitive data, and Family Code Chapter 58 covers juvenile confidentiality. The Texas Public Information Act applies to covered government information but is not the default route for a judicial case file.
Ask the custodian what rule, statute, or order controls access and whether a redacted public copy is available. A clerk cannot override a judge’s seal. Never try to bypass a portal restriction or reproduce private identifiers from a result.
